Increasing the understanding of Sustainable Ecosystem Management in the Northern NSW Dairy Region
Project Description
This project will educate young dairy farmers in the Northern New South Wales dairy region about sustainable ecosystem management, particularly compost production, the role of soil fertility and methods for assessing soil biological activity. ‘Dairy discussion’ farm visits will be held in the mid North Coast New South Wales region to promote the use of existing natural resource management tools such as the Dairy Self-Assessment Tool and the farm nutrient loss index. A two day soils forum with expert speakers will be held at Coffs Harbour focusing on a range of soil care topics. Through these education and awareness raising activities, young dairy farmers in the region will have an increased ability to support sustainable ecosystems in the region.
