Young Dairy Network - South East Queensland
The South East Queensland Young Dairy Network (SEQYDN) was established in late 2007, through funding provided through the Federal Government’s Department of Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs.
The network aims to provide an opportunity for like minded young dairy farmers to mix together, whilst sharing experiences and also building skills and knowledge, to assist with their dairy business. The network meets about 4 times a year for different events such as forums, farm walks, workshops and discussion groups, in addition to networking events, and covers topics of interest for the young farmers of the region.
Information is gathered from the members of the network on a regular basis to ensure topics are tailored to the group needs. In addition, the SEQYDN has a local steering committee which is made up of young farmers from the region. The committee provides direction to the Coordinator in the planning and organisation of events for the region, with the utilisation of the collected group needs.
The steering committee members include:
Leann Brasington – Maroon
Steve Childs – Roadvale
Jodie Love – Veresdale
Paul Roderick – Harrisville
Craig Sellars – Rosevale
Grant Summerville – Kerry
Rodeny Teese – Veresdale
Craig Teese – Veresdale
Kay Tommerup - Kerry
In the past we have covered topics such as herd management, silage and feed storage, calf rearing, genetics and weather and climate change. In addition, the network holds annual networking events such as the network’s Christmas Party – which we went for a roll on the green. The network has also in conjunction with other regions held a Young Farmers Tour to the Hunter Valley and provided young farmers with the opportunity to attend the Leadin’, Leadership Course.
The network has a regular newsletter which is distributed to its members. If you are interested in receiving this newsletter please email me at email@example.com.
